flea-marketing and home-decorating in the French country

From the Flea Markets

We have at home, tucked away in glass jars and cardboard boxes, many small objects found in the flea markets of the south of France; objects that serve no real purpose, as most of them are broken or rusty or are parts fallen off a bigger piece. We get them and keep them, because there is something hauntingly beautiful although also a little bit sad about these things.

We have recently taken out some of them, and made them into hanging ornaments, available at the shop as Found Objects set no. 1, no. 2, no. 3, and no.4.

Post-Christmas Mantelpiece Decor

leave a comment »

We’ve taken down the bright red Christmas balls, and transformed the mantelpiece into something more sober. Up on display are beautifully decaying books, some of which you can find at our online shop, La Pomme; an antique pocketwatch ornament Apol put together using gold satin ribbon and a tiny crow; a more than one-century-old mirror we bought from a quirky monsieur* who was also selling a dessicated mouse over at the puces* in Lunel; and other bits and pieces picked up here and there, like pinecones and a cardboard milk bottlecap. As usual, everything is expertly supervised by the white crested bird sewn by Abby Glassenberg.

*monsieur = French for mister,  puces = flea market (Oh yes, there’s going to be some French-speaking around here! Sorry, but English is only a second language for us both.)
